How to Mix Music Using Beatmatching

300px-BabyDJ_871

Make your baby steps in DJing

Beatmatching is an essential DJ mixing technique. It is widely used in house, techno and other similar genres that have distinct rhythm. Using beatmatching you can create a seamless transition between two songs.

To use beatmatching you have to:

  • Make the two songs play at the same tempo (BPM or Beats Per Minute)
  • Synchronize the two songs, i.e. align the beats.

How To Mix Your Own Music Online & Be An Internet DJ

It happens to the best of us: you’re clicking on random YouTube links when a friend sends you the best remix you’ve ever heard, and suddenly, you’re gripped by an overwhelming urge to try and mix your own music.

Unfortunately, mixing audio not only entails picking the tracks to mix, but also downloading beats, sound effects, and an audio mixing program. Sometimes, doing all that is worth it, but if you’re looking for something simpler, like an online audio editor already packaged with beats to mix, then give the following websites a shot.

DubStep Studio

Previously known as Electro-House Blender, DubStep Studio’s interface is beautiful and extremely simple, and it includes a decently sized sound library for your mixing pleasure.

DubStep

To add a track to a song, simply click the “Add Sounds” button, and a panel will pop up that splits the available sounds into further categories, such as “Keyboard” or “Sound Effect.” The tracks are not named according to how they sound, and there is no search box, so you may need to preview all of the tracks before you find the right one. Adding the track to the song is as simple as clicking the plus sign next to its name, and then clicking the beats in which you want the it to be heard. From the workspace, you can delete tracks, change the volume of each track, and control whether the track is heard primarily from the left or right speaker.

You can try DubStep Studio to mix your own music without registering, but in order to save or open files, you must register. Even so, users cannot upload their own music into the mixer, nor can they export the song so it can be accessed offline. Despite these shortcomings, DubStep Studio’s ease of use and polished presentation make it a worthwhile app to check out– at least, for someone who wants to try mixing music without any heavy duty commitment.

How to Mix Your Music

If you’re new to recording, you’ve probably figured out just how hard it is to get a great mix on your music. There’s a reason top mixing engineers cost several thousand dollars per song — it’s a definite art to mix! Let’s take a look at the basics of what makes a good mix, and how you can best achieve the goal of a good mix at home!

In or Out Of The Box?

A common term you’ll hear is "in the box" or "out of the box" when talking about mixing. This is pretty simple — "in the box" mixing is referring to doing the mix completely within a computer, using a program such as Pro Tools or Logic. "Out of the box" means you’re using a mixing board and outboard equipment to do your mix — the preferred method of top engineers. For our purposes, though, we’ll assume you’re mixing "in the box" in your favorite software package. Surprisingly, most of the concepts are exactly the same, whichever way you choose to go.

Elements of a Mix

You’ll be mixing in two-track stereo as a final product, so here’s some things to watch out for.
Mixing in stereo represents the two ears on your head. If you’ve ever heard a mono recording (common with many live soundboard recordings), you’ll notice that there’s very little depth to the recording; it sounds very one-dimensional. You’ll want to find ways to use the panning function on your individual tracks to bring depth, focus, and clarity to your recording.

Mixing Drums

The drums are the first element to bring into stereo. Usually, you’ll want to mix the drums in true stereo. Whether you mix so that the stereo "image" is from drummer’s perspective or from the audience perspective is a matter of your personal taste. I prefer to mix from listener perspective — with (for a right-handed drummer) the snare, kick, and center tom in the middle, the overheads panned hard right and left, and the high-hat in the center with a slight nod to the right.

Staying Centered

Several things need to stay in the center of your mix. Bass guitar, for example, usually provides the flowing low-end motion of the song, and needs to stay centered so that it’s sending program material into both channels equally. Lead vocals, usually, will want to stay in the center — and performing a stereo double on choruses and harmonies will give tons of depth.

Mixing Guitars

To give guitars extra depth, consider doubling them, as well; pan each hard right and left. Don’t be afraid to have the guitarist ad-lib on the doubles, to add some extra body to the mix.

Mono Compatibility

One thing to watch out for is mono compatibility. If your music might make it on the radio, watch out that it won’t collapse when summed to mono. Most interfaces have a "mono" button to allow you to check; just turn that function on and make sure that nothing disappears in your mix when listened in mono. If something disappears, move it around in the stereo field (with the mono function enabled) until it reappears. Simple as that!
Mixing in stereo isn’t that hard — but making sure you check all your bases before making that final bounce to disk is of very high importance!

Video Transcription

This is a video tutorial by jimmyR.com and this tutorial I will be teaching you how to get audio from any video you want. On You Tube Google video or music.yahoo.com so if you heard and listening to a music video online and you want to record just the audio I will be showing you how to do that. The first thing I am going to do is find a music video; I can search the cannon in d guy, the really famous dude that has audio here. I can search—I am going to search for link in tetris because I know you think I am crazy but I like those people that play tetris on piano. I think it is really funny sounding. This tricks just some Asian, this dude is fairly good at playing this songs so I want to record this kind, I am going to save the audio. So how do I save the audio? Well, setting up. The first thing I need to do is I need to be able to record from my computer speakers, record with the computers playing basically instead of recording it in my microphone. What I want you to do is go to the bottom right icon I will go and watch scroll middle thing you there maybe you can see it. I want you to click this icon, if you do not have a volume icon just go have click this if you still do not see, I am going to show you a few steps to get it. I want you to go to start, settings control panel and I want you to scroll down top sounds and audio. And here you can check little boxes it says place volume icon in task bar. By clicking in advance will open it anyway. So where you need to be okay, so now I have thing and as you can see there is no band that says enable for recording from computer speakers or anything. Not even the microphone but I want you to go to option, properties and if recording is enabled, I want you to click recording. I want you to switch it if it is not and switch the mixer device and then I want you to check stereo index and click okay. So now we have stereo index options. As you can see here we have the microphone and we do have something called stereo mix which is what I wanted you to see. Stereo mix is actually the thing that records from your computer speakers so enabling it will cut my mic and start recording from the sounds the computer produces. And it did not have to be the video. It can be any IM, any sound playing in the background. So any sound at your computer is generating recorded with stereo mix. Now I need a sound recorder, now that a lot of people know about stereo mix so I just go to start run, I am going to type sndrec32. So it is sndrec32, I click okay and it opens my sound recorded. This is a built in window set comes with your windows computer. So now I can record and that is what is what I am about to do but keep in mind that is going to cut my mic so I am not going to say anything for a while. But here are the steps; I am going to enable stereo mix. I am going to record from the sound recorder and then I am going to click play on this video. Okay, her we go. Demonstration Okay I got my mic back, but as you can see the sound recorder record in while it is being played. And I can scroll back and I can play back to you so I can see the sound call has not diminished any. Demonstration Isn’t that nice? It captured it perfectly so now I just go to file save and it allows me to save as a WAV file. Let us see on limitation of sound recorder, it asks you to save as WAV so you would not be getting it in MP3 format and you cannot convert unless you use another program. So if you want to convert it to MP3 I recommend you search download audacity and do not get the bada or you can search download gold wave. Gold wave says it cost 50 box or something but it is not true you can download it, you can save it and it gives you 150 uses like different filters and edits you can apply. Before it starts nagging you about registering so just go in the file save as it will never nag you for converting a WAV files into wave. Audacity is completely free; it is open source so you can see the source and all that stuff. It is really nice to wave up. So this been is tutorial by jimmyR.com. Be sure to record your favorite sounds and you an even record your friends video and then when they call you on the phone you can play back something they said so they can get freak out or something. Anyway, this is fun stuff you can do; you can remix music or whatever. Again this is been a tutorial by jimmyR.com hope you like it.

How to create a soundtrack for a video that we record from the desktop

Video Transcription

Hello, today we will see how to edit audio to a video between recorded from our desktop. First, we will record the video from our desktop using CamStudio software, like I have explained in the previous video. We will open CamStudio and when recording the video you can choose to record audio along using the microphone for your own voice or the speakers for recording what the computer plays. Before doing this you choose this option from the menu like that. You can choose to record audio from speakers or from microphone. If like on my laptop your computer is too slow to record the audio along with the video you can record only the video and add the sound later. To record only the sound use a sound recorder which is provided along with windows, you can open it from the accessories menu from the entertainment submenu. You just hit the record button, record the message you want to. Record, and then you press stop. After that you just do the following to save the file to disc then you have a wav file which holds the audio. Now you can stop the video recording and add the sound to the video using Windows Movie Maker which is also provided along with windows. When we open the movie maker, it looks like that and with the video file and the sound file onto the right upper panel just like that then drag the video file down to the place for the video which is right here and then the sound file to the place of the sound, which is right here. This is all you need to do. After that you just create the merged file using the file menu and then just ask the movie maker to render the final file for us using this simple Wizard. It takes a few seconds, maybe a little more if it is a long video and Walla, here is our final file ready to play.
